Detroit police Major Crimes Commander Rebecca McKay said the man and woman had been together for several years, and they did not have a reported history of domestic violence. The two were in their 30s.
The couple was living with the victim’s mother.
In an update on Wednesday afternoon, police said that a non-verbal 15-year-old was not in the home at the time of the shooting, but a 16-year-old and a 12-year-old were. The woman shot was the mother of all three children.
The two children who were inside the home didn’t witness the incident, police said.
McKay said no one in the home heard an argument prior to the shooting.
