DETROIT – Some People in Detroit are dealing with yellow-colored water thanks to a GLWA (Great Lakes Water Authority) project.
“Everybody is complaining. It just doesn’t make any sense,” said Allyson Adams.
“It started last night. That’s what I’m gonna say. I noticed it, so I’m kind of cooking dinner, and then I’m trying to wash the vegetables, and next thing I know, there is, like, yellow water coming out,” said Nia White.
As a result, certain areas nearby will experience these issues with their water, prompting people to purchase their own.
The water is not safe to drink, but DWSD says it’s fine to wash your hands and shower in.
Yet some people aren’t even doing that, opting instead to go to a friend’s house.
“I just don’t trust ur cause, how can I? I had no choice but to leave the building because how do you brush your teeth? How do you do anything?” said White.
Areas affected include the Marina District, Belle Isle, the east and west sides, Indian Village, Island View, Elmwood Park, and downtown Detroit.
But at least the issue is only temporary. DWSD states that the problem should be resolved within approximately 24 hours. Many are hoping that’s sooner than later.
“I just had a six-month-old. So, try to carry him and bottles of water or a wagon or whatever. It’s not exactly fun,” White said.
If you are experiencing this issue, you can contact DWSD, and a crew will come out to flush the water main, initiating the process.
That number is 313-267-8000.
