Police use GPS tracking to foil late-night pharmacy heist

OAKLAND COUNTY, Mich. – The four men arrested in a string of Metro Detroit pharmacy break-ins are facing federal charges.

Davon Marcelis Davis, Jonathon Marquise Richardson, Christopher Mark Richardson and Jalen Marcelle Richardson are accused of breaking into a pharmacy with intent to steal controlled substances.

The four were arrested after a pharmacy in Novi was broken into in June.

According to authorities, law enforcement said they identified two vehicles that were rented and involved in an attempted pharmacy break-in in May and another involved in a June 12 Rochester Hills pharmacy break-in. When the suspect rented a third vehicle on June 25, authorities said they placed a GPS tracker on it, which was then surveilled by multiple police agencies across Metro Detroit.

That night, the rented Chevrolet Blazer reportedly left Detroit and was seen checking out multiple pharmacies before stopping at one on 10 Mile Road in Farmington Hills. Three people were seen leaving the vehicle, breaking a door with a crowbar and entering the pharmacy.

Police were at the scene within a minute. Three suspects attempted to run away, but were quickly apprehended. Police said they recovered more than $400 believed to have been stolen from a cash register and a black garbage bag that had Adderall and Alprazolam inside.

The driver inside the Blazer -- identified as Christopher Mark Richardson Jr. -- reportedly took off and crashed into a police cruiser before driving back to Detroit, where they were taken into custody.

Video footage from a Michigan State Police helicopter shows the pursuit and arrests.

The four men are facing charges for similar burglaries across Southeast Michigan.
