Detectives set up surveillance at several locations on July 10 and found both suspects at two separate residences. The 21-year-old woman was arrested without incident. Her 20-year-old brother, however, reportedly tried to run away from the home he was at and ran through several backyards before hiding in a garage. He was later found by detectives and was arrested.
Police believe the suspects were involved in several other robberies in Commerce Township and Auburn Hills.
According to police, the alleged robberies happened in retail store parking lots. On at least two occasions, the suspects used force to steal purses from women. The victims sustained minor injuries.
“It could have been much worse,” said Waterford police. “We have no way of knowing how far these suspects would have gone or to what extent the violence would have escalated had we not been able to halt this string of robberies.”
The two were charged with unarmed robbery and larceny in the Commerce Township and Auburn Hills incidents. Police said the man is currently on parole for the same offense.
Detectives will also present the facts and information in the White Lake Township robbery for the prosecutor’s consideration of charges.
