The family of an Oakland County road worker killed on the job needs your help.
Cedric Jones, a 43-year-old father of 6, was hit and killed by a driver while working in a construction zone in Farmington Hills on July 23.
Cedric was a minister at the Wings of Love Ministries on Detroit’s east side. His family prayed there. Ahead of Sunday’s service, they spoke to Local 4 about their beloved husband and father as they search for justice.
Overcome with emotion, Roshanda Jones says she lost her best friend.
“I sat up waiting for him to come back, and he’s not coming back. He always came home,” she said.
Cedric leaves behind six children, ranging from 15 to 24 years old. Three boys and three girls were left heartbroken.
“It’s the worst time in my life, I have never thought I’d lose my dad,” said Cameron.
Cedric was fixing a drainage basin on Orchard Lake Road near 11 Mile Road with two workers on Wednesday.
Police said a driver crossed the median and hit all of them. Two workers were seriously injured. Cedric did not survive.
“My dad was my best friend; it doesn’t feel real,” said Dionne.
“He was a great father, great soul to be around, great person all around,” said Cameron.
The family said they are still waiting to hear from the road commission and that they have had no updates from Farmington Hills police.
“It’s a slap in the face not to know. I just want to see my dad get justice,” said Brooklyn.
With some siblings in college and others about to start, the family has set up a GoFundMe account and needs your help.
“I would want for them to have the ability to do what he wanted them to do,” said Roshanda. “The best way to honor his legacy is to do something with your life.”
