SUMPTER TOWNSHIP, Mich. – A man has been charged with murdering his 24-year-old girlfriend after her death was initially reported as a suicide, police said.
David Paul McPherson, 39, was charged with second-degree murder and felony firearm possession in the death of 24-year-old Haleigh Pace.

Police say Pace’s death was initially reported as a suicide, and an investigation led to McPherson being charged.
“Following an investigation into the reported suicide of 24-year-old Haleigh Pace at her home on Montana Street in the Holiday West Mobile Home Community on June 29, 2025, her 39-year-old live-in boyfriend, David Paul McPherson, has been arrested and charged with her murder,” according to the Sumpter Township Police Department.
McPherson was arraigned in the 34th District Court on Thursday, July 31, 2025, and he was issued a $1 million bond.
His probable cause conference is scheduled for Wednesday, Aug. 13, 2025.
