MACOMB COUNTY, Mich. – A man has been charged with animal cruelty after allegedly beating and dragging a dog along a street in Macomb County.

Multiple people called 911 on Aug. 3 just after 9:30 a.m., reporting that a man was beating and dragging a dog near Van Dyke Avenue in Bruce Township.

The man, later identified as 31-year-old Corbin Charles Sutton from Romeo, was found by police near 12000 St. Michel Avenue.

Police tried to conduct a traffic stop to take him into custody, but authorities said Sutton became combative. He was eventually arrested.

During his arrest, Michigan State Police said Sutton damaged a Macomb County Sheriff’s Office patrol car.

The dog was taken to a vet for emergency care and is expected to be okay.

Sutton was arraigned in court on Aug. 5 with one count of animal cruelty. He was given a $25,000 cash bond.

The dog was surrendered to the Macomb County Animal Control and will require surgery and post-operative care.

Police said those who wish to donate to the dog’s care or to Macomb County Animal Control can head to the animal control’s website.

Sutton is expected to appear in court on Aug. 19 at 9 a.m.
