The 3 items found in bathtub drain at ex-boyfriend’s apartment in Ashley Elkins murder case

Clump of hair, earring, bullet fragment found in drain

MACOMB COUNTY, Mich. – An officer said he found multiple items inside the bathtub drain at Deandre Booker’s apartment while investigating the disappearance of Ashley Elkins.

Booker has been charged with first-degree premeditated murder, tampering with evidence, disinterment or mutilation of a dead body and concealing the death of an individual in connection with the murder of Elkins.

His preliminary examination began on Wednesday, Aug. 6, and continued on Friday, Aug. 8, 2025.

Booker wasn’t present in the courtroom on Friday because he was being disruptive and wouldn’t put on his jail uniform for court.

He listened to the hearing over Zoom, and when the judge asked for him to be unmuted, Booker was screaming. The judge said that since Booker could see and hear them, the preliminary examination could continue.

This comes after he refused to sit down during the hearing on Wednesday, which the prosecutor claimed was an attempt to intimidate the witnesses who were testifying against him.

One of the people called to testify on Friday was Roseville Officer Munafo. You can watch his full testimony in the video at the top of this article.

Munafo said that he went to Booker’s apartment on Jan. 30, 2025, to help collect evidence because a plumbing company was called to remove the drains.

Drains were removed from the kitchen sink, the bathroom sink and the bathtub.

All three were examined, but notable evidence was found inside the bathtub drain.

In one of the pieces of that drain, a clump of hair was found.

They also found a suspected bullet fragment in the bathtub drain. When Booker’s defense attorney Robbie Lang questioned if he could determine how long the bullet had been in the drain, the officer said he couldn’t, but said he could tell it was corroded because it had been sitting in water.

They also found an earring in the bathtub drain.

When Lang asked if the earring or the hair was linked to Elkins, Munafo said that he didn’t know because he just collected the evidence, and it went to the lab after that.

Elkins’ body has never been found. Her car was found a few miles from her Booker’s apartment on Tuesday, Jan. 7, 2025.

Booker was taken into custody in Flint on Jan. 8 and was initially charged with lying to police.

While in Flint, officials said Booker looked up information online about the fastest routes from Flint to Ohio, what to do on the run, if blood is traceable, how to beat a polygraph, and how to delete Google search history.

On Jan. 31, he was arraigned on the charges of premeditated murder, tampering with evidence, disinterment of a body and concealing the death of an individual in connection with Elkins’ murder.
