Thieves steal trailer with life-changing wheelchairs meant for athletes with disabilities in Troy

The trailer used by The Agape Project was reportedly taken from a parking lot in Troy over the weekend

TROY, Mich. – An Oakland County nonprofit is seeking help after its trailer was stolen, containing some very expensive and difficult-to-manufacture wheelchairs.

The trailer used by The Agape Project was reportedly taken from a parking lot in Troy over the weekend.

The nonprofit offers individuals with disabilities the opportunity to participate in races using custom-built chairs designed for running.

There were nine chairs inside the trailer.

They cost around $6,500 each and take months to produce, so unless these are found quickly, the Agape Project will be unable to host any events for the remainder of this year.

The nonprofit knows the chances of finding the chairs are low, but they’re hoping someone either spots them or the person who took them has a change of heart and returns them to where they were taken.
