Clinton Township mother found incompetent to stand trial in infant daughter’s death

CLINTON TOWNSHIP, Mich. – A Clinton Township mother remains in legal limbo after being found incompetent to stand trial for the death of her one-month-old daughter.

Kia Barkley, 31, was arraigned in 41B Clinton Township District Court following a March 15, 2023, incident in which she allegedly shook and threw her infant daughter to the ground.

The baby was hospitalized and died nearly a month later from her injuries.

Barkley’s case will remain on hold as the court continues to assess her mental competency and determine whether she may eventually be restored to stand trial.
