WEST BLOOMFIELD, Mich. – A 58-year-old man from West Bloomfield has been charged with seven felonies after allegedly committing a series of crimes in West Bloomfield.
According to authorities, police received a 911 call Wednesday, Aug. 20, regarding a man punching staff at the Planet Fitness on Orchard Lake Road.
Police Chief Scott Mong said it started with an argument with the front desk that escalated to violence.
“He grabbed a metal object that was part of an exercise machine and was threatening staff and other people with that object and then threw it,” Mong said.
When police arrived, the man had already gotten into his car. He allegedly tried to run over a police officer and struck multiple police cruisers before leading officers on a high-speed chase through a residential neighborhood.
After crashing into multiple police vehicles again, his vehicle came to a stop. Officers deployed tasers several times before pulling the man out of the car and restraining him.
