DETROIT – Ralph C Wilson Centennial Park is getting closer and closer to becoming a reality in Detroit.
On Thursday (Aug. 21), it was a packed house as representatives from the Riverfront Conservancy were there to show off progress and answer any questions people might have.
Riverfront Conservancy CEO, Ryan Sullivan, said, “This community has come together to ideate, to design, and ultimately, to construct and bring this park to life.
After 10 years in the making, Wilson Park will be mainly divided into four sections: a sports house with two full-sized basketball courts, a water garden, the hill for winter sledding and summer movie nights, and lastly the play area where kids of all ages will get excited about the playground made out of Michigan animals.
“I know it in my own household, but right now, I’ve got four kids at home, and they’re always asking me, ‘Hey, dad, when can we go see the bear slide? Not only that, the sports house, the water garden, just so many things for everyone to enjoy, not just kids,” Sullivan said.
The best part is the admission price.
And soon the park will be added to what was voted the best Riverfront in the country three years in a row.
“This is all happening for the citizens. And it’s for free. So I think it’ll be well used,” said Detroit resident Phil Sack.
The grand opening for Ralph C. Wilson Park will take place on Oct. 25 and 26.
