DETROIT – A manhunt is underway in Detroit after a man walked into his ex-wife’s workplace and opened fire, killing her.
Latricia Green Brown was shot in the basement of Henry Ford Hospital around 10 a.m. Friday (Aug. 22).
Minutes after the shooting, police identified her ex-husband, Mario Green, 53, as the suspect.
Security cameras captured him leaving the hospital shortly after the shooting.
Detroit police Chief Todd Bettison described the incident: “He produced a handgun and fired multiple shots, killing his ex-wife.”
Bettison said Green of Bloomfield Hills was first considered a person of interest but is now the prime suspect in the killing that sparked a chaotic scene on West Grand Boulevard and a citywide manhunt.
“We’re actively looking for him. He is presumed to be armed and dangerous,” Bettison said.
Surveillance footage shows Green entering the hospital and heading to the basement, where Brown worked.
Police said he shot her multiple times following an argument.
After the shooting, Green fled in a white 2011 Dodge Charger, heading north on the Lodge Freeway.
The car was found abandoned near Lahser Road on Detroit’s west side around 2 p.m., but Green remains at large.
He is six feet tall and was last seen wearing all black with a gold chain.
Green has a violent criminal history, including six years in state prison for a 2006 arson conviction.
He also served four years of probation for aggravated stalking and recently completed a three-year probation term for failing to pay child support.
Brown had sought an order of protection against Green, but he had not been served.
“We have a comprehensive security plan in place that includes metal detectors at the emergency department and an on-site police force.
We consistently strive to ensure our facilities are safe and our processes and procedures prioritize security. An internal investigation into this tragic incident is underway.”

Police urge anyone who sees Green not to approach him, as he is considered armed and dangerous. Instead, contact law enforcement immediately.
