WAYNE COUNTY, Mich. – Aug. 27, 2025, marks the 17-year anniversary of Alicia Digna’s disappearance. Her family, who has not stopped searching since the day she went missing, said every day without her still feels empty.
Alicia was last seen in Romulus back in 2008.
Alicia’s family said she has nine brothers and sisters, as well as nieces and nephews she has never met because she has been gone so long. They believe they have spotted her a few times and have pursued tips, but it’s been 17 years without any definitive leads.
“We’ve never stopped looking for you. We’ve never stopped loving you. We want you home,” said her sister, Shiloh Digna.
Her family insists Alicia wouldn’t just run away, especially not without her medication. As a matter of fact, that is how they knew something was off. Alicia was also very close with her family.
“She literally lived down the street from me. She literally had these girls every day,” Shiloh said.
Looking back to the summer of 2008, at 26 years old, Alicia, according to her family, was always smiling, despite her battle with severe medical issues.
“My sister is sick, she has MS. She has a compound tumor on her spine,” said Shiloh.
Her family said that without her medication, the consequences could include brain or spinal damage, even death.
Before Alicia vanished, she was living in Gibraltar and had recently broken up with her fiancé. She had plans to move to Indiana with her sister. And just a month before going missing, Alicia’s car was stolen, so she had been spending time with her mother in Romulus.
On Aug. 27, 2008, Alicia was last seen driving her 1992 burgundy four-door Pontiac Grand Am. Her car was found abandoned a week later at Mount Elliott and East Vernor in Detroit with someone else’s cell phone inside.
“They found her car on the east side of Detroit at a gas station with the door open and a cell phone in it,” Shiloh said.
Since her disappearance, Alicia has not used her medical insurance or disability benefits, according to her family.
“It’s just heartbreaking,” her sister said. “This year will be 17 years in August that she’s been missing and not a word.”
Alicia Digna is now 42 years old. Her family also recently lost their father without learning what happened to his daughter.
Alicia, who is classified as endangered missing, has several surgery scars and distinctive tattoos that would clearly identify her.
