According to authorities, Linda Renee Polk was providing in-home care for the victim’s wife in the spring of 2021 when the victim’s health began to decline. In October 2024, Polk allegedly obtained a fraudulent power of attorney over the 78-year-old man and instructed the hospital to take him off life support. She did not inform his family before cremating him.

Polk also allegedly authored a fraudulent quit-claim deed on the victim’s home, embezzled money and used credit cards in his name.

After a nearly month-long preliminary exam, Mount Clemens District Court Judge Carrie Fuca determined there was enough evidence to proceed with trial on all charges.

The charges against Polk include first-degree premeditated murder; two counts of forgery of documents affecting real property; embezzlement of a vulnerable adult between $1,000 and $20,000; two counts of identity theft; and two counts of illegal sale or use of financial transaction devices.

Polk was remanded to custody. Her next court date is Sept. 22.
