HAZEL PARK, Mich. – Police have arrested a 43-year-old Redford Township man in connection with the Labor Day double homicide of a mother and her young son in Hazel Park.
Sources confirmed to Local 4 that both victims’ throats were slashed.
Hazel Park police executed a search warrant Tuesday around 7 p.m. at a home in Pontiac, where they arrested the suspect and recovered evidence linked to the murders.
The family of the victims said they know who the suspect is and that he was known to them prior to the murders.
Multiple law enforcement agencies, including Hazel Park police, Oakland County Sheriff’s Deputies, and SWAT teams, participated in the arrest operation in Pontiac.
Neighbors reported seeing significant police activity in the area.
“We didn’t know what the situation was, but you could tell there was a situation because we heard sirens all the way until we got here,” said one neighbor.
According to another neighbor, the suspect was seen in the area several days before the murders, though the reason for his being in Pontiac remains unclear.
Hazel Park police Chief William Hamel said he expects an arraignment by Friday or Saturday.
