CANTON TOWNSHIP, Mich. – A 30-year-old Canton Township man has been charged with murder in the death of his wife.
Authorities were called to a Canton Township home on Pinehurst Drive at about 3:30 a.m., Monday, Sept. 8, on reports of a woman not breathing. First responders found Yu Zhao, 30, inside the home unresponsive. She was taken to a hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

Police believe her husband, Michael Shen, strangled his wife at about 1 a.m. that day.
On Thursday, Sept. 11, Shen was charged with first-degree murder. He was denied bond and remanded to jail. His next court date is Sept. 19.
If convicted, he could spend the rest of his life in jail without parole.
