Start your engines: 2026 Detroit Grand Prix announced for weekend following Memorial Day

The event will mark the 36th Grand Prix weekend in Detroit’s history, taking place from May 29 to 31

DETROIT – Racing fans will once again wave the green flag on summer in the Motor City as the 2026 Chevrolet Detroit Grand Prix presented by Lear is confirmed for Sunday, May 31.

INDYCAR revealed its 2026 season schedule on Tuesday (Sept. 16), including the date for the race on the 1.7-mile street circuit on the streets of Detroit.

The event will mark the 36th Grand Prix weekend in Detroit’s history, taking place from May 29 to 31, the weekend following Memorial Day.

The three-day festival will feature racing, music, and family fun in Downtown Detroit, continuing the tradition of one of the city’s most popular summer events.

The 2026 race will be the fourth consecutive year the Grand Prix returns to its original home on the downtown street circuit.

Next year’s event builds on momentum from a successful 2025 Grand Prix, which attracted about 156,000 attendees over the weekend—a 4% increase from previous years.

Fans witnessed one of the most competitive races in Detroit Grand Prix history.

Kyle Kirkwood of Andretti Global won the race, which featured 261 on-track passes—the most since the event moved downtown in 2023.

The race also set a record with 181 passes for position, the highest for any Detroit Grand Prix race on both the Belle Isle and downtown circuits.

Ticket renewals for the 2026 event are expected to begin this fall.
