Nickelback announces huge 2023 tour with two Michigan concerts
GRAND RAPIDS & DETROIT, MI - Rockers Nickelback just announced a huge 38-city tour for this year with two concerts scheduled for Michigan. One will be at Van Andel Arena in Grand Rapids on Friday, June 16 and the other is scheduled for Pine Knob in Clarkston on Sunday, August 13. Tickets for both concerts go on sale on Friday, January 27 at 10 a.m. Grand Rapids tickets can be purchased here through SeatGeek, via StubHub and through Ticketmaster. Tickets for the Pine Knob concert can be purchased via SeatGeek, through StubHub and at Ticketmaster. Before they head out on tour this year, they will be inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame at the JUNO Awards on March 13.

The Detroit City Council granted its approval for the Detroit Grand Prix to move from Belle Isle to the Detroit River waterfront, a move proposed by Bud Denker, president of Penske Corporation, in September. The race will return to Belle Isle June 3-5, 2022, before moving to downtown Detroit in 2023. “We are so excited to begin a new era of the Grand Prix beginning in 2023,” a statement reads. “Ensuring that everyone has the opportunity to experience the energy of our street festival in downtown Detroit. In the coming weeks we look forward to sharing our vision for the future of the Grand Prix in the Motor City.”

The race is scheduled to return to Belle Isle June 3-5, 2022 and a current agreement with the state to host the race on Belle Isle is good though 2024. Bud Denker, president of Penske Corporation, wants to see a downtown street circuit beginning in 2023. The 2021 version of the Detroit Grand Prix was won by Marcus Ericsson and Patricio O’Ward.

"We are excited to bring the Chevrolet Detroit Grand Prix presented by Lear back to Belle Isle in 2021 and return to a traditional one-weekend format June 11 through the 13th, featuring five great races with three incredible racing series," Michael Montri, President of the Chevrolet Detroit Grand Prix presented by Lear, said in a statement. But people who aren't so keen on cars have long complained about the event coming to Belle Isle state park, charging that it restricts access to Detroit's island treasure during our too-short warm season and its construction and tear-down period takes months. Regardless of how you feel, the return of the Grand Prix is, in a sense, a sign that nature is healing from the pandemic.
