PONTIAC, Mich. – An Oakland County doctor accused of sexually abusing and secretly recording patients has pleaded no contest to the charges against him.
Dr. Oumair Aejaz faces accusations of sexual abuse and hiding cameras in patients’ changing rooms.
Pleading no contest has the same legal effect as a guilty plea, meaning Aejaz is accepting the court’s punishment without admitting fault. This plea is significant because it cannot be used against him in civil lawsuits, which numerous victims have already filed.
“When you know that that kind of evil exists in the world, you can’t ever not know it,” said Oakland County Prosecutor Karen McDonald.
Aejaz pleaded no contest to 31 counts of sexual misconduct involving victims ranging from adults to a child as young as two years old. Prosecutors say Aejaz was someone people trusted, making the betrayal even more severe.
“When something like this happens, it shakes the confidence of the whole community,” McDonald said.
The case gained further attention when Aejaz’s wife called the police in August 2024, reporting that he had secretly recorded her, their two young sons, and other relatives at home.
Police later discovered recordings of people undressing at the Rochester Hills Goldfish Swim School. Investigators seized six computers, four phones, and 15 hard drives containing roughly 13,000 videos, some filmed by Aejaz himself.
“Because there was so much, there was no way at the stage when we charged to know how much bigger and how broad these criminal acts were,” McDonald said. “I’m relieved they don’t have to go through a trial -- that’s traumatic. And that he’ll be incarcerated.”
Aejaz had privileges at Ascension Genesys and Henry Ford Macomb Hospitals, but was never directly employed by either.
Aejaz is scheduled to be sentenced on Dec. 2. He faces a mandatory minimum sentence of 25 years for the first-degree charges.
