Former NHL star Ryan Kesler facing sexual conduct charges in Michigan

Charges stem from incident reported to Orchard Lake police on Jan. 2

ORCHARD LAKE, Mich. – A former National Hockey League star and Metro Detroit native, Ryan Kesler, is facing criminal sexual conduct charges in Oakland County, police said.

Ryan James Kesler, 41, was arraigned in the 48th District Court on two misdemeanor counts of fourth-degree criminal sexual conduct on Monday, Oct. 27, 2025.

The charges are connected to an alleged incident that was reported to Orchard Lake police on Jan. 2, 2025.

Kesler posted a $50,000 (10%, cash/surety) bond. He was ordered not to leave the state without the court’s permission.

His probable cause conference is scheduled for Nov. 6, 2025, and his preliminary examination is scheduled for Nov. 13.

Police said no additional details about the allegations will be released at this time.

Kesler, who is from Livonia, spent 15 seasons in the NHL from 2003 to 2019, playing for Vancouver and Anaheim. He is also a well-known youth hockey coach in the Metro Detroit area.
