Tropical Update — Hurricane Melissa
At 2 p.m. EDT Wednesday, Hurricane Melissa was moving northeast over the Bahamas at 15 mph with maximum sustained winds of 100 mph (Category 2 strength).
The National Hurricane Center warns of damaging winds, flooding rains, and a dangerous storm surge impacting the Bahamas through tonight, spreading into eastern Cuba by Thursday.
No direct impacts expected for the continental U.S., but indirect swells and marine hazards will affect the Florida Straits and parts of the southeast Atlantic coast.
