FRENCHTOWN TOWNSHIP, Mich. – A 15-year-old boy from Carleton was struck and killed early Saturday morning (Nov. 1) while walking along Telegraph Road in Frenchtown Township.
Police say the teenager was walking southbound on the northbound shoulder of the road around 1:30 a.m. with a 14-year-old friend when he was hit by a Dodge Journey driven by a 31-year-old woman.

After the crash, the boy ended up in a ditch on the east side of the road, while the 31-year-old driver stopped in a nearby gas station parking lot.
The driver initially did not realize she had struck a pedestrian, thinking she had hit an inanimate object. She reported the crash to police after noticing damage to her car.
Police say the teenager was wearing dark clothing at the time, and the vehicle’s airbags did not deploy.
The teenager was taken to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The driver was not injured and was released from the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office.
Police say driver inattention was a factor in the crash.
The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Services Division is continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.
