A 21-year-old Detroit man has been arrested following a police chase linked to an armed carjacking, police said. At the time of his arrest, police also recovered a child missing from Eastpointe.

While the trooper was near I-96 and Grand River, they found the car parked at the BP gas station at 7305 Grand River Avenue.

The trooper tried to conduct a traffic stop on the car, but the driver fled.

The chase continued until the car lost its right front tire while exiting westbound I-96 at Davison Avenue.

The trooper ended the pursuit using a precision immobilization technique (PIT).

The suspect, identified as a 21-year-old Detroit man, ran from the car, while a passenger stayed inside.

Police later identified the passenger as a missing child from Eastpointe.

Troopers ran after the suspect and discovered that he had jumped a fence at the Detroit General Services Garage located at 8221 Davison Avenue.

Detroit police assisted, and the suspect was arrested and taken to the Detroit Detention Center.

“Great work by troopers to get this suspect into custody,” said MSP Lt. Mike Shaw. “This investigation is continuing and an investigative report will be submitted to the prosecutor.”
