First taste of winter: Slushy snow, single-digit wind chills expected this weekend in Metro Detroit

Saturday highs in upper 40s; Sunday highs in upper 39

4Warn WeatherSloppy Snow & Colder Air Ahead for the Weekend

You might need your boots this weekend, but the shovels can stay in the garage.

Much of what falls on our warm ground will melt pretty quickly.

The exception will be up in the thumb, where lake effect bands might put down more accumulating snow.

Rake up those leaves Saturday before they turn into a heavy, wet mess

The honey-do list will be a bit longer on Saturday, as Sunday will be wet and cold.

So take in the Halloween decorations, put up Christmas lights, and certainly rake those leaves up. Highs Saturday in the upper 40s.

Wet & Snowy Saturday night into Sunday Evening

Rain mixed with snow begins overnight Saturday and continues through Sunday, as a clipper system moves through.

Grassy areas will likely get a good coating across much of Metro Detroit with a sloppy accumulation in parts of Livingston and northern Oakland counties.

If you live in the thumb, there’s a better chance of a couple of inches or more through Monday, with some lake-effect bands.

The tricky part here is that our ground is still pretty warm, so even if an inch or two of snow falls, it might not look like it.

Find the winter gear before sending kids to school Monday

Happens every year. Boots don’t fit, one glove is missing, and frustrated parents are rushing the kids to the bus stop.

Now is the time to go through that coat closet and get kids ready for freezing temps at the bus stop and recess. Wind chills could drop to the single digits Monday morning.
