Wayne County pharmacist sentenced in multi-million dollar Medicare fraud scheme

DEARBORN HEIGHTS, Mich. – A former pharmacist in Dearborn Heights will spend nearly four years in federal prison for a multi-million dollar fraud scheme.

According to authorities, Nabil Fakih billed Medicare for prescription medications he did not dispense from about 2011 to 2017. He reportedly submitted claims for reimbursement to Medicare for high-reimbursing prescription medications that his pharmacy did not even have in stock.

Authorities said he defrauded Medicare of roughly $4 million.

After pleading guilty to health care fraud, Fakih was sentenced to 46 months in prison and was ordered to pay $4 million in restitution. He was also ordered to forfeit four properties and more than $725,000.
