There are 43 counties in Michigan under winter weather alerts due to accumulating snow.

Winter weather advisory

Here’s a list of counties that are under a winter weather advisory until 4 p.m. on Wednesday:

  • Livingston County
  • Oakland County
  • Macomb County
  • Midland County
  • Bay County
  • Huron County
  • Saginaw County
  • Tuscola County
  • Sanilac County
  • Shiawassee County
  • Genesee County
  • Lapeer County
  • St. Clair County

The counties listed above are expected to receive additional snow accumulations of up to two inches on Wednesday, according to the National Weather Service.

Snow moved in overnight and changed over to rain/snow mix on Wednesday morning for many areas, leading to several school closings.

On Wednesday afternoon, snow is expected to move through the region again, and as temperatures fall below freezing, a refreeze remains a concern.

  • Clare County
  • Oceana County
  • Newaygo County
  • Mecosta County
  • Isabella County
  • Muskegon County
  • Montcalm County
  • Gratiot County
  • Ottawa County
  • Kent County
  • Ionia County
  • Clinton County

The areas listed above are expected to see additional snow accumulations between 1 and 3 inches along I-96 and between 2 and 4 inches north of M-46, according to the NWS.

These areas are expected to get additional snow accumulations of 2-4 inches.

Higher snow accumulations are expected south of M-72 in the northern lower parts of the state. The snow amounts on the lower end of the expected totals will be north of M-72, according to the NWS.

What is a winter weather advisory?

According to the National Weather Service, “A Winter Weather Advisory will be issued for any amount of freezing rain, or when 2 to 4 inches of snow (alone or in combination with sleet and freezing rain), is expected to cause a significant inconvenience, but not serious enough to warrant a warning.”
