WATERFORD TOWNSHIP, Mich. – During the colder months, neighbors become less visible as people spend more time inside. However, when snow falls, residents emerge to tackle their driveways.
In Waterford Township, one resident found himself shoveling his driveway multiple times before noon.
“When I first did it, it was packed pretty good. Then I turned around when I got done, I looked out the window, and flakes started to come down heavier and faster,” Lee Tovey said.
Some residents opted for snow blowers to clear their driveways.
“It’s tremendous. We would be out here for so long with just the shovel,” said Max Hoose.
Some teens saw an opportunity to help neighbors while earning money.
“We have a snowblower in the back and a shovel right there,” said Nathan Yacoub.
His friend Nicholas Herrington added, “I am just happy that I am out of school today and get to help people out.”
Some residents went beyond their own driveways, working to clear entire streets.
“They have to get all the main roads so the neighborhood roads, it is usually an ice rink before they can make it out to these neighborhood roads,” said Michelle Miller.
“It is a good feeling to make sure everyone can get up and down the road,” Lisa Thompson said.
A 4-year-old resident added some fun to the snowy day with a themed snowman.
“His dad works construction, we’re going to put a construction hat on him,” said Amelia Gregarek about “Construction Frosty.”
