FERNDALE, Mich. – Christmas is always on Dec. 25, yet many people wait until the last minute to do their holiday shopping.
And that’s okay — as long as the gifts are ready to go on Christmas Day.
On Christmas Eve, shoppers filled The Rocket store in Ferndale, searching for last-minute stocking stuffers.
Dayna Fabrey, a shopper, said, “This is by far the best place to come get those last-minute things.”
Fabrey admitted, “It sneaks up on me. I’m busy, all the excuses. But I think it is fun being out with all the people doing their last-minute shopping.”
The store’s sales associate, Ava Heiler, noted, “Usually, during Christmas Eve, they kind of know what they want to get, so they come in, fill up their baskets, and they’re in and out.”
Just a few storefronts away, shoppers continued their holiday quest.
Robyn Felton, another shopper, shared, “I am looking for a surprise gift for my daughter. She gives me things to buy, but I always like to give a surprise gift. She went to a concert, and she really didn’t know who LL Cool J was, so I wanted to give her this album.”
For many in Ferndale, shopping local is a cherished holiday tradition.
Taidhgin Leinenger said, “Really important. I say it’s helpful to support the community and help out.”
