Detroit man sentenced to 102 months in federal prison for carjacking, firearm charges

DETROIT – A Detroit man was sentenced to 102 months in federal prison following his convictions for carjacking and brandishing a firearm during and in relation to a crime of violence.

Brandon Sims, 35, of Detroit, was sentenced on Wednesday (Jan. 14).

According to court documents, Sims committed the carjacking on Oct. 18, 2023, in Detroit.

The 35-year-old man carjacked a man who was assisting a young woman move out of Sim’s residence.

Sims entered the man’s SUV and brandished a firearm.

The victim pushed the gun away, causing it to discharge.

The man ran from the vehicle, and Sims drove off with the young woman.

Several hours later, FBI Special Agents and members of the Detroit Police Department’s Commercial Auto Theft Section located Sims and the young woman in Pontiac, and took the 35-year-old man into custody.

The carjacked vehicle was found the following day.
