FERNDALE, Mich. – An Oak Park man will spend decades in jail for the murder of a DoorDash delivery driver in Ferndale.
It happened in March 2025, near Eight Mile Road and Woodward Avenue. Police said they received a 911 call just before 2 a.m. reporting shots fired, followed by a second 911 call from someone who found a man collapsed outside a Ford Escape on the Woodward Avenue bridge over Eight Mile Road.
Police said they found Mamadou Diallo, a 26-year-old man from Detroit, who had been shot in the chest. He was rushed to a hospital, where he died.
It was the day before his 27th birthday.
Police said they learned Diallo was working as a DoorDash delivery driver at the time and had picked up an order from White Castle just before the shooting. According to authorities, Diallo’s vehicle was nearly hit by a speeding GMC truck that abruptly switched lanes. The truck’s driver slowed near Eight Mile Road, allowing Diallo to catch up. Police believe six shots were fired from the truck into Diallo’s vehicle.
It was the first murder in Ferndale since 2016.
Roughly a month later, Terrell Simms was arrested and charged with second-degree murder, carrying a concealed weapon, felon in possession of a firearm and two counts of felony firearm.
He was denied bond.
A jury found him guilty on all counts in October 2025.
On Tuesday, Jan. 27, Simms was sentenced to 37.5 to 80 years in prison.
