Winter weather alerts have been issued for several counties in Michigan due to dangerously cold temperatures and the chance for accumulating snow.

According to the National Weather Service, “a Cold Weather Advisory is issued when temperatures or wind chills are expected to reach -15 to -24 degrees.”
Metro Detroit Weather Forecast
Snow showers or snow squalls are possible in the region on Friday afternoon into the evening. High temperature is warming into the load of mid 30s by the time we get to Friday afternoon.
Wind chills will drop as low as -15° to -20° overnight Friday through midday on Saturday.

Winter Weather Advisory
A winter weather advisory has been issued for the following counties:
- Luce County (in effect through 7 a.m. Saturday)
- Northern Schoolcraft County (in effect through 7 a.m. Saturday)
- Alger County (in effect through 7 a.m. Saturday)
In Alger County, additional snow accumulations of 3-6 inches are possible with wind gusts of up to 45 mph. The NWS said it could be near-zero visibility at times, especially close to the lakeshore.
Between 2 and 4 inches of snow is expected in Luce and Northern Schoolcraft counties, with wind gusts as high as 40 mph possible.
According to the NWS, “a Winter Weather Advisory will be issued for any amount of freezing rain, or when 2 to 4 inches of snow (alone or in combination with sleet and freezing rain), is expected to cause a significant inconvenience, but not serious enough to warrant a warning."
