Woman dies, 2 teenagers injured in head-on crash in Whiteford Township

Careless driving was a factor in the crash, police say

WHITEFORD TOWNSHIP, Mich. – A 60-year-old Ottawa Lake woman was killed, and two teenagers were injured Saturday night in a head-on crash on US-23 in Whiteford Township.

At around 10 p.m. on Feb. 14, the woman was driving her Ford Escape southbound in a northbound lane.

She crashed head-on into a Ford F-150 driven by an 18-year-old boy who was traveling with a 17-year-old girl in the passenger seat.

Airbags went off in both cars, and everyone was wearing their seat belts.

The 60-year-old died at the scene. The teenagers were taken to a local hospital with serious injuries.

Police said careless driving was a factor in the crash.

The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Services Division is investigating the crash.
