Man seriously injured after being hit by two cars while walking along road
MONROE COUNTY, MI – An Ottawa Lake man was seriously injured Tuesday night after being hit by a car while walking on the side of a road, police say. The man was then hit by a second car after being struck down by the first car, police say. The preliminary investigation determined a man, 23, was walking along Yankee Road when he was struck by an unknown vehicle that continued onward, leaving the man in the roadway, police said. The injured man was then struck by westbound maroon 2019 Honda CRV that immediately stopped and called 911, police said. Anyone with information regarding the crash is asked to call the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office at 734-240-7708.

Benny Wilkerson of Ottawa Lake received a service dog during the Ability Center's graduation program held Nov. 21. Benny Wilkerson of Ottawa Lake received a service dog during the Ability Center's graduation program held Nov. 21. His service dog, named Timber, is the second dog Wilkerson has been assigned through the program. The November graduation ceremony featured 12 dogs who have been assigned to either therapy or service use to assist individuals with disabilities. Each dog is trained to perform tasks that meet the needs of that specific person.

Bob Turner of Ida and John Iott of Ottawa Lake are the newest members of the Monroe County Fair Board. Turner was elected to one of a dozen seats in an election held during the fair associations annual meeting Thursday night in the 4-H Dining Hall. Turner has volunteered many years with various projects at the fair and has joined the work bees before fair week. Iott also assists at the work bees and has been associated with the fair for a long time, fair Manager Darryl Diamond said. A vendor committee meeting will be held at 6 p.m. Jan. 13 at the fair office followed by an executive board meeting at 7.

BEDFORD TOWNSHIP Lock-It-Up Self Storage, a fullservice storage company based out of Toledo, recently opened its first facility in Bedford Township. Last month the company closed on an existing storage site at 100 W. Sterns Rd. The facility is now open and accepting new clients, but Lock-It-Up director Stacey Irwin promised the location will quickly transform as the company looks to cater to a new market. The company has 14 facilities in Ohio, eight of which are located in the Toledo area. Just look at Bedford, look at the Sterns-Lewis area right there... Theres so much going on, so many improvements.
