INKSTER, Mich. – A Wayne County convict who reportedly escaped from a hospital, leading to a large manhunt across Inkster and Garden City, has been sentenced.

It started with a car crash on Sept. 2, 2025, near Road and Lucerne Street in Inkster. According to authorities, Antonio Dewayne Hollingsworth failed to yield when leaving a parking lot, hitting a motorcycle on Inkster Road.
The motorcycle driver, 44-year-old Nicholas Cogswell, was taken to a hospital, where he later died from his injuries.
Hollingsworth was taken into custody at the scene.
Escape, charges, plea
Police said Hollingsworth was transported from jail to Garden City Hospital on Sept. 4 after complaining of chest pain. After receiving treatment, he reportedly escaped from police custody and fled on foot.
Police described Hollingsworth as a parole absconder convicted of armed robbery and warned residents that he was dangerous.
He was taken back into custody several hours later after a tip from a quick-thinking resident.
Hollingsworth was charged Sept. 8, 2025, with possession of a controlled substance, moving violation causing death, escape from lawful custody and driving while license suspended.
On Feb. 2, 2026, Hollingsworth pleaded no contest to the charge of controlled substance abuse, leading to the dismissal of other charges.
On Wednesday, Feb. 18, Hollingsworth was sentenced to one year in jail for possession of a controlled substance and moving violation causing death. He was given two days credit for time served.
