DETROIT – Michigan Wolverines legend Jalen Rose was back in Detroit to host a special screening of his new show, Southwest High, a drama he co-created and is loosely based on his own story.
Rose stars as Nolan Thomas, a former pro basketball player who returns to Detroit to rebuild his old high school.
The show is all about mentorship and second chances, important values at the real-life Jalen Rose Leadership Academy.
Rose said on Monday (Feb. 23) that the show also aims to spotlight the stories of Detroiters.
“Think about some of the things we do that are universal in Detroit. It’s not because you’re from the street or because you’re from this block or neighborhood, like when you ‘Boss up’ here, that’s for everybody. Saying, ‘What up doe,” rocking Cartier’s, like what we do is for all of us, and that’s one of the things we love about this city, and that’s what Southwest High is going to represent.”
Episode one is already available to stream.
You can watch it for free on “Tubi,” which is available in all app stores and on smart TVs.
