WASHTENAW COUNTY, MI -- Events all throughout Washtenaw County will celebrate the life of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and the role he played in the civil rights movement. The federal holiday is Monday, Jan. 16, and these are some events that are taking place across Washtenaw County to commemorate King and his work. – Jalen Rose was clearly the fan favorite during Saturday’s Ally Challenge Celebrity Shootout at Warwick Hills Golf and Country Club. Rose, the former Michigan and NBA star, stepped up to his tee ball and promptly popped it up. The ball went about 30 feet in the air and maybe – maybe! Rose proceeded to try and catch the ball before hit the ground, barely missing it before teeing it up again. Fortunately for Rose, he was given a mulligan and hit worm-burner down the fairway before surrendering the tee.

The Celebrity Shootout contestants will follow the final group of the second round off the 10th hole. Michigan beats Colorado State with big comeback in NCAA Tournament opener
Michigan overcame a 15-point first-half deficit to beat Colorado State 75-63 on Thursday in the first game of the NCAA Tournament’s first round. On Thursday, Michigan got all it could muster from Colorado State, falling behind 28-13 with 5:09 left in the first half. Michigan held Colorado State star David Roddy to just 13 points, his lowest output since November. Despite Roddy’s bright green shoes and the green “Colorado State Univ.” across his jersey, the Rams could not prevail on Saint Patrick’s Day. Michigan scored the next six points and never lead Colorado State get closer than eight in the final minutes.

On Thursday, news broke that none of the three officers involved in Breonna Taylor’s death were charged with her killing. A grand jury decided to indict just one officer, on first-degree wanton endangerment charges. Rose appeared on ESPN during halftime of the network’s Thursday night playoff game between the Miami Heat and Boston Celtics. Rose has spoken on social justice issues throughout his time at ESPN and particularly this season. The NBA has been supportive as well, with most players wearing social justice messages, including “Black Lives Matter,” on their jerseys.

Instead, it turned into a forum for players to express their feelings about racial and social issues after practice was canceled. For Rose, the era of athletes sticking to sports is over in part because President Donald Trump hasnt been shy about criticizing NBA and NFL players who disagree with him. The Juwan Howard Era At Michigan Kicks Off With A Win
ANN ARBOR, Mich. (AP) Juwan Howard felt plenty of support at his first game as Michigans coach. Jon Teske had 17 points and 13 rebounds, and the Wolverines held off Appalachian State 79-71. Howard was welcomed warmly by the home fans, and when Rose appeared on the screen, Howard took a moment to clap along with the crowd. Michigan led 67-37 with about 13 minutes remaining, then Appalachian State went on a 30-5 run. Michigan led 46-25 at halftime.
