DETROIT – A 16-year-old has been charged in connection with a shooting outside Detroit Edison High School.
The shooting happened at around 8:30 p.m. on Feb. 27 after a fight that began inside the school. Security initially broke up the fight, but it continued outside.
During the fight, police said a 16-year-old pulled out a gun and shot another teen.
The victim was taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
On March 18, after further investigation, Detroit police announced they had made an arrest in the shooting.
Detroit Police Commander Jevon Johnson said officers executed three search warrants during the investigation and recovered assault rifles and a handgun. A 16-year-old from Southfield was then arrested and charged with carrying a concealed weapon, carrying a weapon in a weapons-free zone, and careless use of a firearm.
The victim was also charged with carrying a concealed weapon and carrying a weapon in a weapons-free zone.
