Newly obtained body camera footage shows police rescuing kids and searching the flooded building after the West Bloomfield temple attack.
The attacker’s vehicle caught fire when it drove through the temple, and there was gunfire exchanged with security personnel. Officials said the attacker died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound. No children or staff members at the temple were injured.
On Wednesday, March 18, Local 4 obtained body camera footage from the March 12 attack.
There are four different body cam clips in the video below:
- 0:00: Police helping toddlers get out of the building from their classrooms.
- 0:49: Police searching the kitchen area, bathrooms, and other rooms.
- 2:49: Police smashing into a room where teachers were hiding with babies, and helping those babies get out.
- 6:58: Officers and firefighters searching through the dark, flooded sections of the building.
In the footage, officers breach a door and enter a room where staff members are huddled between cribs with five babies. One officer is shown carrying an infant to a nearby ambulance, while other officers help load additional children into the emergency vehicle to get them out of that area.
Another clip shows officers moving down a hallway lined with coats and backpacks as they lead other young children out of classrooms.
“Keep coming,” “C’mon,” “You’re OK,” “Good job guys,” “Run run run,” were among the statements officers made as the children were being led out of the synagogue.
Police and firefighters are also seen searching the building after the attack, walking through dark, flooded hallways and rooms as water continues to fall from overhead sprinklers.
