26 cats, 1 dog removed from Michigan home due to unsanitary conditions

Officers seeking felony animal neglect charges

LANSING, Mich. – Nearly 30 animals were allegedly removed from a Michigan home this week after they were found living in unsanitary conditions.

In the evening on Wednesday, April 22, 2026, Ingham County Animal Control said it received a request for assistance from the Lansing Police Department in connection with several animals living in filthy conditions at a home in the 1500 block of Indiana Avenue in Lansing.

Officers removed 26 cats and one dog from the home and transported them to Ingham County Animal Control and Shelter, where they are currently undergoing medical evaluations.

Animal control officials said a report requesting felony animal neglect charges will be submitted to the prosecutor’s office.

The shelter is also asking for the public’s help in caring for the influx of cats. Donations of dry or wet food for cats and kittens are appreciated and can be mailed or dropped off at the shelter.
