DETROIT – The man accused of setting a fire inside Huntington Place has been charged.

Deashawn Victor Harrison was charged with third-degree arson and preparation to burn real property.

Detroit fire investigators said Harrison was caught on camera going inside Huntington Place on April 28 just before 9 a.m., dousing the carpet with gasoline, walking toward the exit and setting a fire before leaving.

The fire was quickly extinguished and caused minimal damage, according to officials.

No injuries were reported.

Harrison was arrested on May 8 after surveillance images and case details were shared publicly. A vigilant person who saw the story on the news contacted authorities after spotting the man, leading to his arrest.

He was arraigned in court on May 9 and was given a $100,000 cash bond.
