WARREN, Mich. – Police said they have cracked the case of eight church break-ins around the city of Warren.
Andre Lane, 37, is accused of being linked to eight reports of overnight church break-ins between March 31 and April 20.
A physical description of Lane was developed by surveillance, capturing him approaching buildings on a specific beach cruiser bicycle, according to police
A computer was taken during one of the break-ins and was used to make several online transactions, police said.
Lane was taken into custody by undercover Warren police without incident.
After a search warrant at Lane’s home, the police said they found multiple pieces of stolen property, including financial items specifically linked to the churches.
The Macomb County Prosecutors’ Office charged Lane with eight counts of breaking and entering a building with intent (10-year felony) and 1 count of illegal use of a financial transaction device (4-year felony).
Lane was charged as a four-time offender and was an active parole absconder for home invasion crimes at the time of this incident.
The judge has issued Lane an $800,000 bond ($100,000 per case).
His next court date is May 19.
Lane has previous convictions for theft, assault, and multiple home invasions.
