DETROIT – The long line outside Detroit Express Muffler tells the whole story.
The shop, located at 15430 Fenkell Ave. in Detroit, is offering free oil changes to anyone who stops by during business hours Tuesday through Friday, May 27–30, from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
No appointment is needed, there’s no catch, and no cutoff; just show up, and they’ll keep you running.
Owner KC Zaher says the gesture is about giving back to the people who have supported the shop over the years.
“A $2,000 oil change is the smallest gesture we can make for our customers,” Zaher said.
By noon on Monday, the shop had already changed the oil in 60 vehicles.
Zaher says rising costs were top of mind when he and his team decided to organize the four-day event.
“Looking at the gas prices going up, it’s tough out here sometimes, so we got to make sure we can give back when we can give back,” Zaher said.
The community response has been overwhelming.
One woman drove all the way from Saline to take advantage of the free service.
For others, like customer Shontori Bowles, the timing couldn’t have been better.
“I’m in school, so I’m working less hours, so any money I don’t have to spend benefits me and my family,” Bowles said.
A customer who goes by TT says Detroit Express Muffler is the only place she’ll go for her vehicle maintenance.
TT was pleasantly surprised to find out the shop was offering oil changes on the house.
“Was an oil change something you’d been putting off?” TT was asked.
“Yeah, for a long time, and I’m glad it’s free,” TT said.
Zaher says the math is simple when it comes to taking care of your vehicle.
“It’s a lot cheaper to change the oil than it is to change an engine,” Zaher said.
No appointment is necessary.
