DETROIT – A Henry Ford aims to help new moms manage high blood pressure, from there first week home until one year later.

High blood pressure affects between 5-10% of all pregnancies in the U.S.

That number increased by 25% over the past two years.

Uncontrolled high blood pressure can lead to serious complications for new and expecting mothers.

Complications often are stroke risk, preeclampsia, or early delivery.

In severe cases high blood pressure while pregnant can be life-threatening.

One in three pregnancy-related deaths happen within one year of delivery.

The Heart Healthy Moms program started in 2023.

Henry Ford has now expanded the program to include small group education sessions.

New sessions focus on cardiac health, nutrition and safe exercise during pregnancy and postpartum.
