Masked suspects caught after attempted vehicle break-in at Livingston County dealership

The suspects were identified as a 17-year-old from Inkster and a 23-year-old from Detroit

LIVINGSTON COUNTY, Mich. – Two masked suspects were arrested after a vehicle break-in at a Livingston County car dealership led to a brief foot pursuit.

The incident occurred on Wednesday (June 3) at 2:25 a.m., when Troopers from the Brighton Post were called to Champion Chrysler Jeep Dodge Ram of Brighton regarding suspicious individuals looking into vehicles on the lot.

While Troopers were en route, Livingston County dispatchers advised that one of the suspects had broken into a vehicle.

When officers arrived, they said they saw two men wearing ski masks fleeing from marked patrol vehicles.

With assistance from the Brighton Police Department, Troopers apprehended both suspects after a brief foot chase.

The suspects were identified as a 17-year-old from Inkster and a 23-year-old from Detroit, police said.

Their names were not released because of their ages.

Following the arrests, Troopers said they used K9 Wood to search the area and recover items believed to have been discarded during the pursuit.

Police said they found two center-punch tools commonly used to break vehicle windows, along with two blank key fobs and an automobile scanner-programmer capable of programming key fobs.

Officials said the 17-year-old was released to his mother pending review of the charges by the prosecutor’s office.

The 23-year-old was taken to a hospital for treatment of minor injuries sustained during the incident and later lodged at the Livingston County Jail.

The investigation remains ongoing and will be submitted to the Livingston County Prosecutor’s Office for review of potential criminal charges, police said.
