Hidradenitis Suppurativa is a chronic inflammatory skin disease.
Millions of people are affected by the disease, it is often painful and misunderstood.
The diseases causes painful lumps under the skin in areas like the armpits, groin, buttocks, under the breasts and inner thighs.
It begins as bumps that can appear similar to pimples, over time they can swell, rupture and leave scars.
Woman are diagnosed about two to three times more often than men as their symptoms often in the teens, 20s, or 30s.
People with a family history of the diseases may face a higher risk, the condition is also more common in people who smoke or have obesity.
Research also shows the the disease is diagnosed more frequently in black Americans, experts are still studying why.
Doctors stress the diseases is not caused by poor hygiene, it is instead involving the immune system and hair follicles.
Jasmine Ivanna Espy, founder of the Association of Hidradenitis Suppurativa and Inflammatory Diseases joined Local 4 Live to tell us about the condition.
