DETROIT – One man was killed, and another was injured in a shooting on Detroit’s east side.
The incident occurred on Tuesday (June 9) when officers from the Detroit Police Department’s 9th Precinct responded at approximately 6 p.m. to the 19300 block of Strasburg Street for reports of a shooting.
Upon arrival, officers said they initially believed they were investigating a double-fatal shooting.
However, police later determined that one man died from a gunshot wound, while a second man survived and was transported to a Metro Detroit hospital.
Police said the injured man suffered non-life-threatening injuries and is currently in police custody in connection with the incident.
Officials said they have not released the ages or identities of those involved as they work to notify family members.
Detroit Police Department Public Information Officer Officer Jalon Nelson said investigators are still in the early stages of the case and are working to determine what led to the shooting.
The department’s Homicide Unit is leading the investigation and gathering evidence before submitting its findings to the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office for a charging decision.
Police said they believe the shooting was an isolated incident and that there is no ongoing threat to the public.
“Our condolences go out to the families of both involved parties, for one life lost is one too many in our city,” said Nelson.
