One person has died and four minors have been arrested after an early morning police pursuit of an allegedly stolen vehicle ended with a fatal crash at the intersection of Schoenherr and 8-Mile roads on Thursday.

According to Warren police, officers initiated a traffic stop of a silver Dodge Ram in the area of Fairfield and Georgiana avenues in Warren after spotting multiple individuals with ski masks inside the car. The driver reportedly did not stop and fled from police, eventually crashing into a vehicle traveling westbound on 8 Mile Road after failing to stop at a red light at the intersection while heading southbound on Schoenherr Road.

The occupants of the Dodge ram fled on foot after the crash, and officers were able to apprehend four out of the five individuals, all of whom were juveniles, police said.

The driver of the other vehicle, identified as a 48-year-old man from Detroit, was transported to a local hospital by the Detroit Fire Department where he was later pronounced dead.

Investigators say they believe the suspects are responsible for “at least 15 vehicle-related crimes, including thefts and attempted thefts, reported throughout Warren within the last 48 hours.”

An investigation into the incident is ongoing and the intersection has since reopened.
