MACOMB COUNTY, Mich. – A popular waterfront event venue in Macomb County reopened after an electrical fire earlier this year forced the facility to close for months and undergo extensive repairs.
MacRay Harbor welcomed guests back Thursday evening (June 18) during a grand reopening celebration held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., marking the first time the event center has been open since an April fire caused significant structural and water damage.

The fire forced the venue to shut down and reschedule approximately 65 already-booked events, according to management.
“It’s been a long road,” said MacRay Harbor General Manager Kelli Matthes. “Basically, everything you see in here is new. Whether it’s new paint, new flooring, new carpet, new lights, new ceiling tiles, everything had to be redone.”
Guests attending the reopening were welcomed with champagne and light appetizers as they toured the renovated event center.
The entire building was open for viewing, and both of the harbor’s restaurants were open throughout the evening.
Venue leaders credited local vendors, contractors, and community partners for helping complete the restoration effort and return the facility to operation.
The reopening comes just months after the fire disrupted weddings, parties, and other events scheduled at the popular waterfront destination.
Organizers said community support played a major role in helping the business recover and reopen.
The celebration offered visitors a firsthand look at the extensive renovations and the facility’s transformation following the fire.
