4Warn Weather – Thursday evening will feel cool across Southeast Michigan, especially north of Detroit.
Temperatures will drop through the 50s and into the 40s overnight, with the chilliest air near the I-69 corridor and in the Thumb.
Some communities outside Metro Detroit will wake up in the lower 40s Friday, and a few rural and usually cool spots may reach the upper 30s. It is a good night to take a jacket if you will be out late.
Friday
Friday starts with sunshine, but clouds will become more noticeable during the afternoon and evening.
That may keep temperatures a few degrees below Thursday’s levels, with highs generally in the mid- to upper 60s.
The clouds should not bring more than a change of scenery. The forecast remains dry.
That is welcome news for a weekend packed with sports. The Tigers host the Pittsburgh Pirates at Comerica Park at 6:40 p.m. Friday.
Fans arriving early can expect a comfortable start, though it will feel cooler by the later innings.
Friday night’s high school football games will also have classic sweatshirt weather, with temperatures falling through the 50s.
Saturday
Saturday offers plenty of choices for fans.
The Tigers and Pirates play again at 1:10 p.m. in Detroit.
Michigan hosts Iowa in Ann Arbor at 3:30 p.m., and Michigan State welcomes Nebraska to East Lansing at 5 p.m. Highs should reach the upper 60s to around 70 degrees under mostly sunny skies.
It is a favorable forecast for tailgates and afternoon games, but fans staying into the evening will want another layer as temperatures fall.
Sunday
Sunday brings a busy afternoon downtown.
The Lions host the New York Jets at Ford Field at 1 p.m., while the Tigers close their series with the Pirates at Comerica Park at 3:10 p.m.
Expect comfortable conditions for the walk to either venue and for outdoor tailgating.
Skies may be partly cloudy, with highs in the upper 60s to lower 70s.
Workweek
The dry pattern should hold Monday and Tuesday, with seasonable afternoons and cool nights.
The next meaningful opportunity for showers arrives Wednesday into Thursday as a weather system approaches the Great Lakes.
The timing and coverage will become clearer over the next several days, but there is little sign of rain interfering with this weekend’s local plans.
National weather
Elsewhere in the country, the weather story is far less quiet.
A developing coastal storm is expected to bring wind and heavy rain to parts of the Northeast and New England this weekend, with coastal flooding and rough surf possible.
Boston’s forecast, for example, calls for strengthening northeast winds Friday night and periods of heavy rain Saturday.
Farther west, monsoonal moisture is fueling thunderstorms across parts of the Southwest, where intense downpours can quickly flood washes, roads and other low-lying areas.
That distant weather is not expected to interrupt Southeast Michigan’s run of cool mornings, pleasant afternoons and mostly dry weekend games.
